The Dark Night

It was around the same time last year when I ventured out to Sebastian with Niki for a night time adventure. We found a dark spot and a beach to pull into. We stargazed for hours and with the Moon absent in the sky, we had tremendous views of the Milky Way.

Steven and I went out there this week to catch the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. Along with our camera equipment, he also brought his telescope. The problem with the shower being around this time of the month conflicted with the near-full Moon. The Milky Way ridge was barely visible. We braved the mosquitoes and waited out the haze from the storms earlier in the evening.

We saw Jupiter's 4 visible moons perfectly aligned off of the mighty gas giant.

At around 1:30am we left and decided to take some night shots of old Melbourne. We were harassed by a drugged out lady accusing of either being from: the police department, the surveyors office, or the historical society. She gave us the ol' middle digit and told us to take a picture of that. I was too busy setting my camera up, Steven was mostly dealing with her. Can't people mind their own business when two guys are taking pictures suspiciously at 2 in the morning? geeeeeez.

Oh, and go see Tropic Thunder. tight.

Also, my mom is participating in this sea-turtle statue art project. Basically, the turtles will be displayed in various businesses. She went with a pirate theme which I nicknamed the turtle, Barnacle Bill. After it's clear-coated she'll stick barnacles on the flippers (my idea).
