Adventures

I present, Mystic Seaport CT

FDR bought this boat for his children. A fine vessel for the novice sailor to learn the ways of the wind. A sad note, he sailed her 2 days before he was stricken with polio.

They had a special room full of various figureheads. I was yelled at because they don't like photography in that room. What's the big deal?

I like to call this the restoration barn. Surprisingly, that red boat is 100 years old, looked like it was built an hour ago.

The whaleship, Charles W. Morgan, is going through a restoration process and will be out of the water for 3 years. Seeing this ship in dry dock was impressive.

THEN

This is called shipwrighting. Sailors would pull the ship on its side for repairs.

NOW

My dad used the same method on his new boat. The main halyard snapped.

This technique made it easy for him to reach the top of the mast for that pesky halyard.

I am glad to find your blog.
It looks like we have made similar trips, although I didn't actually enter mystic seaport this recent time.
